
The Ministry of Culture and Knowledge Development concluded the “Cahrity Book Fair” which was held under the patronage of His Excellency Sheikh Nahyan bin Mubarak Al Nahyan, Minister of Culture and Knowledge Development. The Book Fair was held over a period of a week in cultural centers in the UAE and included more than 20000 books as a culmination of the book Bank initiative also organized by the Ministry of Culture. Profit gained from books sold in the charity book fair were given to the Red Crescent Authority providing an opportunity for the public to support knowledge charitable programs and projects coinciding with the year of goodness 2017. On his part, Ahmed Al Haddabi, Director of the Libraries Department at the Ministry of Culture and Knowledge Development and the Supervisor of the charity exhibition, expressed his happiness with the succes of the exhibition. He further that it was an opportunity to enhance the spirit of responsibility towards supporting cultural development and promoting the culture of reading and giving. Al Hadbabi added that the book bank received more than 20,000 books which were displayed in charity book fairs organized in all cultural centers across the UAE and achieved great popularity and interaction from the public. Al Haddabi added that books were mostly in both Arabic and English languages and covered cultural, religious, economic, intellectual, literary and heritage fields in addition to children's stories and dictionaries. Al Haddabi added that the main objective of this initiative was to strengthen the roles of all members of the society in being part of the future knowledge making system and to raise the level of community cultural and knowledge awareness. He added that the initiative also focused on facilitating and creating channels for knowledge exchange among members of the society and promoting the spirit of cultural and knowledge volunteering. Al Haddabi further stressed that the Ministry’s aim behind the implementation of this initiative in the month of reading was to raise the level of community awareness about knowledge contributions benefiting all segments of society. In addition to the promotion of the roles of members of the community to become part of the knowledge industry by creating channels for knowledge exchange among members of society, and to promote the spirit of cultural volunteerism.
