The Ministry Of Culture And The British Council Collaborate To Revive Shakespeare’s Macbeth In An All-Female Cast In An Immersive Theatrical Performance In Abu Dhabi And Ajman!

In an immersive theatrical performance and amidst a huge audience, Shakespeare’s Macbeth was enacted in an all-female cast as part of the Cultural Collaboration program between the UAE and the UK taking place throughout 2017. The show , produced by the UAE Ministry of Culture & Knowledge Development in partnership with the British Council, will tour three emirates over three weekends. Don’t wait for the traditional stage-seat scenario, this play rather provides an immersive theatrical experience with scenes happening simultaneously. Audience will be allowed to roam around the space and engage with the cast. The twist to the show is in the blend of the original story and text of Macbeth with today’s contemporary world. Yasser Al-Gergawi, Director of Events Department at the Ministry of Culture and Knowledge Development, said that the show which comes under the patronage of HE Sheikh Nahyan bin Mubarak Al Nahyan, Minister of Culture and Knowledge Development, comes as an outcome of the UAE-British cultural cooperation program. Al-Gergawi added that the interactive nature of the play mainly aims at audience communication, thus introducing a new kind of theatre to the Arab world. Gavin Anderson, Country Director of British Council UAE, commented; ‘We are delighted that the UAE tour of Constellation Theatre’s Macbeth is taking place as part of the UK/UAE 2017 Year of Creative Collaboration. The production will reach multiple communities in Abu Dhabi, Dubai and Ajman and features dedicated sessions for schools and at the British Council Teaching Centres at 6pm on Monday 1st May in Abu Dhabi and at the same time in Dubai Tuesday 2nd May.
