The Book Bank initiative launched by the Ministry of Culture and Knowledge Development under the patronage of His Excellency Sheikh Nahyan bin Mubarak Al Nahyan, Minister of Culture and Knowledge Development, witnessed an unprecedented participation from donations by government and private institutions and UAE residents. This initiative gave them the opportunity to be part of the month of reading and the year of goodness both together. Ahmed Al Haddabi, Head of the Libraries Department, said that the book bank is an opportunity to enhance the spirit of responsibility towards supporting cultural development and promoting the culture of reading and giving. Al Hadbabi added that the book bank received more than 20,000 books which were displayed in charity book fairs organized in all cultural centers across the UAE. and achieved great popularity and interaction from the public. Al Haddabi further stressed that all the books displayed in the charity book fair are available to community members in return of money donations to be put in UAE Red Crescent donation boxes. He further stated “We have communicated with the Red Crescent Authority of UAE to provide donation boxes during the days of exhibitions to provide an opportunity for the public to support cultural programs and projects coinciding with the year of goodness 2017. Al Haddabi added that Book Bank boxes available in cultural centers across the UAE received a huge amount of book donations exceeding our expectations. Books were mostly in both Arabic and English languages and covered cultural, religious, economic, intellectual, literary and heritage fields in addition to children's stories and dictionaries.
