During her visit to Sharjah, Noura Al Kaabi toured Sharjah Art Foundation’s galleries at Al Mureijah Square, Arts Area, and Bait Al Serkal.
On Wednesday, Noura Bint Mohamed Al Kaabi, Minister of Culture and Knowledge Development, visited a number of cultural venues in the Emirate of Sharjah. Sharjah is home to a number of museums and exhibitions concerned with arts and archeology. The Emirate of Sharjah, under the wise vision and unlimited support of His Highness Sheikh Dr. Sultan bin Mohammed Al Qasimi, Member of the Supreme Council and Ruler of Sharjah, holds a place of importance in the cultural sphere for intellectuals, innovators and artists, and continues to contribute greatly to the ongoing cultural development within the UAE.
Al Kaabi, who was accompanied by Sheikha Nawar Al Qasimi, Head of Development at Sharjah Art Foundation (SAF) and Sheikha Noura Al Mualla, Head of the Arts Centers at Sharjah Art Foundation (SAF), started the visit with a tour of the artistic alleys of Al Mureijah Square, as well as the Hassan Sharif retrospective, I Am The Single Work Artist, curated by Sheikha Hoor Al Qasimi, President of Sharjah Art Foundation, on view in galleries at Al Mureijah Square and Bait Al Serkal.
The exhibition Hassan Sharif: I Am The Single Work Artist, which runs until the 3rd of February, is the culmination of Sharif’s long and storied history with the Emirate of Sharjah, where he first began staging interventions and exhibitions of contemporary art. Al Kaabi was introduced to the nature of the artworks displayed in the exhibition and their important role in documenting the ongoing cultural and artistic development within the country.
The Sharjah Annual Islamic Art Festival organized by the Sharjah Department of Culture, was the next stop during the Minister’s tour of Sharjah. The festival, which is considered one of the most important cultural events in the Emirate of Sharjah, offers a large scale of activities reflecting the vitality and depth of Islamic arts as a global and contemporary language for visual creativity.
The tour moved onto a visit to the Sharjah Museum of Islamic Civilization’s exhibition, Thomas Hope Drawings of Ottoman Istanbul, and concluded with Al Kaabi visiting the exhibition, 40 Years of Archeological Cooperation between the UAE and France, organized by Sharjah Archeology Museum.
The Ministry of Culture and Knowledge Development noted that this visit illustrated the Emirate of Sharjah’s major contributions to the cultural sector through its promotion of global histories and the values of tolerance and co-existence among different cultures. Sharjah continues to be a global destination for intellectuals from the region and beyond.
