The Ministry of Culture and Knowledge Development recently hosted a new committee session, entitled Music Creativity Lab with key music experts to discuss the strategic development of the nation’s music landscape. The session aimed at developing best practices that would help drive youth in the fields of music and arts.
Sheikh Salem Al Qassimi, Assistant Undersecretary of Arts and Heritage at the Ministry of Culture and Knowledge Development, said: "With this inaugural Music Creativity Lab, we aim to start a fruitful dialogue on the importance of grooming talent and providing them with the creative and sustainable career opportunities in the music industry. Our leadership’s vision is focused on creating a sustainable cultural environment whether it is by preserving and promoting local heritage and tradition, or bringing the best of global art, music, museums, and more to the UAE.”
“At the Ministry of Culture and Knowledge Development, we believe inculcating appreciation for art starts at school. The UAE government has implemented educational programmes and outreach initiatives designed to enhance the youth’s accessibility of arts and culture. In fact, just last week, our cultural partner, the Department of Culture and Tourism – Abu Dhabi have signed an agreement with the renowned Berklee College of Music. This milestone is another major step in our journey of building the UAE as a global hub for arts and education,” he continued.
The session was divided into three parts; where the first focused on the music industry in the country, number of musical institutes, professions, curricula and the music community culture in the Emirates. The second part centered around best practices in music and education. The final part of the workshop discussed youth and the importance of investing in talent.
