Mougab Tower

The tower overlooks the western approach to a significant cluster of settlements (mahadhar) in the central part of the Liwa Crescent, which may have been inhabited year-round. Oral histories collected around 1955 indicate that the tower was built by Sheikh Sultan bin Zayed bin Khalifa, although it was already in ruins by that time. Like other watchtowers in Liwa, it was originally constructed using rough-hewn stone quarried from nearby rock formations. The tower was later reconstructed, and its current perimeter wall was added in 2004.
