The tower’s proximity to historic settlements such as Al Turuq, and Khnur led to it being given several alternative names. It is believed to have been constructed in the late 19th century. The tower has a diameter of 4 metres and has retained its full original height of approximately 7 metres. It features two levels of loopholes (firing ports) for defenders, known as marāmī, and tarābīsh (decorative battlements). The authenticity of its construction and its remarkable state of preservation make it one of the most significant historic structures in the Emirate of Abu Dhabi. Historical archival photographs and recent archaeological work at the tower have revealed an outer wall that was used for keeping camels, similar to the wall surrounding the Umm Al Hisn Tower.
