Arabic Language Report
About
The status of the Arabic language today is subject to dispute about holding onto our heritage and identity or engaging with the modern world and evolving. Therefore, Arabic language stands out in these discussions as the most deep-rooted element of our identity as well as the most important tool for interaction in Arabic societies on the one hand; and as a method to engage in knowledge and foster modern awareness and a promising future on the other.
Within this vision comes the report: “The Report on the Status and Future of the Arabic Language”, an effort to contribute to and guide the debate towards an objective understanding of the Arabic language, its role in societies, and its impact. The report begins with field studies and progresses to the development of monitoring plans and strategies that highlight potential capabilities and aim to develop them.
This report was unveiled by His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President and Prime Minister of the United Arab Emirates and Ruler of Dubai, as part of a directive issued to coincide with World Arabic Language Day in December 2018. The initiative aims to reinforce Arabic language as a pillar of science, knowledge, and cultural identity.
