Ministry Of Culture Launches An Audiobook Library To Promote Reading And Support People With Determination

As part of its events in the Year of Giving, the Ministry of Culture and Knowledge Development announced the launch of an Audiobook library across all its cultural centers. The Ministry will also provide audio books to schools and centers for children with determination to encourage them to be part of the cultural movement and to support reading in general. This technology of audio books will also facilitate reading for children with physical difficulties. As an initial step, a large number of children books were produced, and the project will continue throughout the year to provide various Emirati, Arabic and International knowledge according to a long term plan. “As an initial step of the project, the ministry started by producing winning books of the Children’s Short Story Award due to the fact that it contains many interesting stories for children and young people.”, commented Fatima Faisal Al-Nassour, Director of the Knowledge Content Department at the Ministry of Culture and Knowledge Development. She added “The project is not only aimed at people of determination, but extends to all segments of the society, within the Ministry’s efforts to support the spread of the culture of reading. This extremely simple and accessible technology will enable children to make use of the audio book everywhere such as in the car, malls and parks. The library will be available on the ministry's website and can be also accessed through the ministry's social media channels.” Al Nasour further stressed that this project receives direct support and follow up from His Excellency Sheikh Nahyan bin Mubarak Al Nahyan, Minister of Culture and Knowledge Development and Her Excellency Afra Al-Sabri, Undersecretary of the Ministry, which reflects the Ministry's keenness in providing sophisticated cultural content to children in general and children with determination in particular. Fatima Al-Nassour further explained that books currently being produced by the ministry include the winning works of the short story award organized annually by the ministry with the participation of talented writers. The selection criteria were as follows; the use of correct Arabic language and books should be closely related to Emirati values and heritage. Among the most important titles chosen were “AL Marra Al Tamousa- The Ambitious Woman”, “Rainbow shoes” , “Rainbow cake”, “Mahra and the Coloring Book”, “Tale of The Palm” , “Tale of The 4 Colors”, “Mansour's Diary’s”, “Draw My Country”, “Over the Horizons”, “Trip of Brave Hamdan”, “Shams 1”, “When you love your country”, “I will never leave “, “Silent Apology”, “The dream of a wandering vendor”, “A stranger in the desert”, “The stubborn hawk” and “The fisherman and the Baber fish”.
